Vol. 260 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Longford Military Barracks.

75.

asked the Minister for Defence if it is intended to maintain a garrison in Connolly Barracks, Longford, on a permanent basis.

It is intended to maintain a garrison in Connolly Barracks, Longford, for the foreseeable future.

A permanent garrison would be very welcome to the people in Longford. Since the foundation of the State there has been a tremendous loyalty to the National Army in that area. I know with members of the Army it is a most popular station. As proof of that I can tell the Parliamentary Secretary that local publicans give a small discount on the pint to members of the Army.

I am pleased to hear that about the publicans in that area.
