Vol. 260 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Building Grants.

84.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reasons for the unusually long delay in paying reconstruction and building grants in County Wexford.

Undue delays do not as a rule occur in paying grants for the reconstruction and erection of houses in County Wexford. However, the volume of work under the grants schemes rose sharply in recent months and this could have given rise to delays in some individual cases. For example, 9,677 new house grants were finally paid last year, as compared with 8,771 in 1970-71, which, up to then, was an all-time record.

In the normal course, delays also arise where work is not completed in accordance with grant requirements or an applicant fails to comply with conditions governing the payment of grants.

I will certainly look into any particular cases in which the Deputy may consider that undue delay has arisen.
