Vol. 260 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Estates.

47.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position of the Cooney and McGuinness estates at Gibbstown, Navan, County Meath; and when they will be divided.

Composite plans for allotment of these two properties, together with another in the same locality, aggregating 78 acres, have been formulated and are under active consideration just now.

Is it the case that this land has been lying idle since the 31st December, 1971?

That could be the case if the intention was to allocate it this year.

Does the Minister consider it desirable that land be left in that uncultivated condition for such a long period? Does he regard this as being good use of the resources that the Land Commission have in their possession?

I think it reasonable enough if they intend to allocate it this season.

Could they not have made an earlier allocation so as to avoid this?

Probably not.
