Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Serviced Sites.

107.

asked the Minister for Local Government with regard to the announcement by Dublin Corporation that it was making serviced sites available to small builders if he will state how many sites have been allocated; in what lots; where the sites have been allocated; to whom they were offered; the criteria which have been used to select the builders who receive sites; how many and what type of houses have been built or approved on these sites; the price to the purchaser of these houses; and if he will state how many further sites it is proposed to offer in the future and when.

By the end of last month the corporation had allocated 1,248 developed sites to small builders and co-operative housing groups. Individual allocations ranged from four to 40 sites, according to the resources and output of the applicants. The sites were located in Ballymun Road. Collins Avenue Extension, Howth, Kilbarrack, Rathfarnham and Tallaght.

I understand that in making allocations the corporation give preference to builders who have been building in the Dublin area for some time past, who are in need of land for a continuance of their operations, and who satisfy the corporation that they will provide on the sites modest-sized houses which will represent good value to the prospective purchasers.

So far, 259 houses have been completed and a further 742 houses are being built. The sites programme is an on-going one and the local authority intend to make further sites available as development proceeds.

Were there any complaints from builders to the effect that their applications for sites were rejected?

I was aware of some dissatisfaction being expressed by a number of builders but I met them and discussed the matter with them and they have had discussions with the corporation. I think at this stage that whatever difficulties they experienced have been overcome and that they are all reasonably satisfied.

They are all satisfied?

I think so, within reason anyway.
