Vol. 261 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Electricity Supply.

21.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the urgent need to extend higher electric voltage to the Ballingeary area, County Cork, as the present position is detrimental to industrial development; and if he will rectify the position.

I am informed by the ESB that there is one application in for a three-phase supply in the Ballingeary area.

It is anticipated that the work involved in providing supply to these premises will commence within a month.

The board are not aware of any other industry requiring supply in the area.

Would the Minister and the board get together to try to get higher electric voltage to this area in order to help industry?

Priority is always given to any industrial proposal. We hope to have this matter settled within a month.

Would the Minister include agriculture as an industry? Farmers are suffering severe difficulties because single phase voltage is falling well below the stated rate.

Priority is given to industries and to agriculture ahead of private proposals.
