Vol. 261 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Public Relations Officers.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of public relations officers employed in Government Departments in a full-time capacity.

On the assumption that, in referring to public relations officers, the Deputy has in mind such posts with different titles as director, Government Information Bureau, assistant director, Government Information Bureau or information officer, the answer to the question is seven.

In addition, a publicity officer has been appointed to the Department of Finance for western development work.

Why should a publicity officer be appointed to the Department of Finance for western development work? Why not some other Department?

The same Minister holds the two portfolios.

I am just taking the Parliamentary Secretary up on the words he has used. Why has this publicity man been appointed to the Department of Finance?

I did not make the decision. There are, by the way, some other vacancies that have to be filled.
