Vol. 261 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreign Industrial Plants.

77.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what steps the Government have taken since the decision to join the European Community to encourage the setting up of foreign industrial plants in Ireland; and if he will state the results of these steps.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they are launching a major campaign aimed at encouraging foreign promoters to consider Ireland as a location for new factories so as to avail of the additional benefits which we now enjoy as a result of joining the European Economic Community. The first stage of this campaign was a full-page advertisement in the Financial Times on the 12th of this month, which the Deputy may have seen. A similar advertisement appeared in the major newspapers of seven other countries on the 15th. It is as yet too early to indicate the results of this campaign.
