NOTES:

(a)Of 4 holdings offered to the Land Commission during 1970, 2 were not accepted. Of 2 offered during 1971, neither was accepted. The determination of lands to be purchased is reserved exclusively to the Commissioners and decisions must necessarily be governed by the particular circumstances of individual cases. Generally it can be said that where properties which are offered for sale to the Land Commission are not accepted the main reason is that they are not considered suitable for land settlement purposes.

(b)During the year 1970 the Land Commission had inspections made and reports obtained in respect of 6 holdings comprising 185 acres; during 1971 they had inspections made and reports obtained in respect of 7 properties, aggre, ating 218 acres. Possession of 10 properties, aggregating 319 acres, and 5 properties aggregating 131 acres, passed to the Land Commission in 1970 and 1971 respectivelgy.

(c)Regarding the field staff in Co. Longford, the Deputy is referred to reply to Question No. 29 on 4th of this month, Vol. 260 (No. 11), Col. 1709.

The Dáil adjourned at 5 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 7th June, 1972.
