asked the Taoiseach the number of persons over 65 years of age in the greater Dublin area and in the remainder of the country for the years 1951, 1961 and 1971; and the projected population for this age group for the years 1976 and 1981.
Written Answers. - Population Figures.
I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the desired information in respect of the 1951, 1961 and 1966 Censuses of Population, together with estimated figures for 1971. Official population projections are not available for the State nor for individual regions. However, unofficial projections for 1976 and 1981 for the State as a whole have been prepared based on present trends in mortality and migration and these are included in the statement.
Following is the statement:
NUMBERS of persons aged 65 years and over in Dublin County Borough and County and in the remainder of the country in 1951, 1961, 1966 and 1971 (estimated) and projections for 1976 and 1981 for the State.
