Vol. 261 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dingle Pier Extension.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance when Dingle Pier, County Kerry, will be extended and renovated.

A contract for pier improvement works at Dingle has been placed and the works are due for completion in autumn, 1973.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary tell the House when this contract was signed?

We have had some difficulty here. The contract was signed on 16th March, 1972. The contractor was asked to commence work within 14 days. The contractor failed to commence work and in the next couple of weeks the commissioners will take legal advice on the remedies open to them.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary agree that this position is most unsatisfactory? This is 8th June and the contractors have had three months to make up their minds on whether they will do this job. The fishermen in Dingle are still waiting for an improvement. Will he try to find out whether they are interested and then get on with the job?

Unless they start work we will take legal advice.

Within how many weeks?

Within two weeks.

Give them a fortnight.
