Vol. 261 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Office Leasing Arrangements.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance if, with regard to the intention of Government Departments to occupy premises in a newly-built office block in Kildare Street, Dublin, he will give full details of the leasing arrangements.

The office block to which the Deputy refers is being erected on the site of the former Church of Ireland Training College in Kildare Place. The Commissioners of Public Works acquired the fee simple interest in the site and leased it back to the developers for the purpose of the erection of the building. The State has made a capital contribution of £½ million towards the cost of the site acquisition and the erection of the building, which will contain approximately 165,000 square feet of office space. The State will pay an annual rent over a period of years and the building will eventually become the absolute property of the State. While it would be contrary to standard practice to disclose the amount of the annual rent I can say that it compares very favourably with rents being charged at present for modern office accommodation.

Is the sum of £600,000 provided in the Estimate for equipping this building in addition to the sum of £500,000 which has been provided by way of site acquisition?

That is correct.

The State's contribution is £1,100,000 in addition to whatever rents they have to pay?

That is correct.
