Vol. 261 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estates.

33.

asked the Minister for Lands if there are any proposals for the acquisition of (a) the estate of the late James Healy and (b) the Kenny estate, Russelstown, Milltown, County Galway.

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the Healy estate at Aghlisk and the Kenny estate at Carrowpadden East, both in the Dunmore area.

Price agreement has been reached for the purchase of the Healy property. I understand, however, that the title position is rather involved and there are certain difficulties which must be resolved by the vendor before possession can be taken by the Land Commission.

The Land Commission endeavoured to purchase part of the Kenny holding on a voluntary basis but failed to reach agreement on price with the owner. The lands were subsequently sold to an adjoining smallholder.

The estates I am referring to are the ones mentioned in Question No. 33.

I am sorry about that. If the Deputy will repeat his question next week, I will reply to him.
