Vol. 261 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Allotment Transaction.

40.

asked the Minister for Lands the circumstances in which 60 acres of land were allotted to a landless man as stated in the report of the Land Commission for the year ended 31st March, 1970.

The transaction in question was the resale to an owner of part of the holding he had previously sold to the Land Commission.

This property was offered by the owner with a view to obtaining capital to purchase a more suitable holding elsewhere. He found this impossible and, having regard to the particular circumstances of the case, the Land Commission decided to resell to him, then technically landless, the equivalent of a standard holding at a price equal to the apportioned cost to them.

What was the size of the holding he sold in the first instance?

So he was paid by the Land Commission for 111 acres and was then allotted a farm of 60 acres of that. In essence, that is what happened.

Yes. It was a voluntary sale and he was paid in 7½ per cent land bonds. Possession was taken on 5th October, 1967.

He was then allotted 60 acres at a standard annuity related to the price he had received.

That is what I take from the reply—at a price equal to the apportionment cost to them. That is what that means. This is what is called a rhetorical question.

It is a rhetorical situation. It does not require an answer.

I am endeavouring to give the information to Deputy Cooney.
