Vol. 261 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment for the Blind.

77.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what grants, if any, are paid to employers to enable them to equip business and factory premises so as to be able to provide employment for blind people.

My Department has no specific scheme of grants for assisting employers to equip business or factory premises so as to provide employment for blind people.

The Minister said his Department have no specific plans. Does he not consider he should make inquiries to see if people suffering from the handicap of blindness could be facilitated?

There are so many necessary provisions, it is so necessary to provide employment on a general basis at the present time, that to ask the IDA specifically to go off at a tangent in this field——

Does the Minister seriously think they would be going off a tangent.

The Minister for Health is conducting inquiries in his Department with a view to faciltating this type of employment.
