Vol. 261 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Finance.

110.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether his Department have made available more money to local authorities to enable them to provide houses for all those who need them; and if he will indicate what this amount is.

A sum of £23.9 million has been allocated provisionally for local authority housing in the current financial year. This compares with an allocation initially of £19.5 million in 1971-72, which was subsequently increased during the year to £21.6 million. Housing authorities have been notified of the amount allocated provisionally to them for commitments this year and have been informed that additional allocations will be made to them, within available resources, from time to time, according as schemes are ready to be started.
