asked the Minister for Local Government the average cost of providing a local authority house in each of the past five years.

Notes:
(1) Estimated costs are based on approved tender prices plus overheads such as land, fees, estimated Price Variation Clause increases, etc. Final accounts are not available on a wide scale to enable average actual cost figures to be supplied.
(2) Superstructure costs only are readily available for 1967-68. For houses in County Borough and other urban areas average superstructure cost was £1,925 approximately and £1,625 approximately for houses in rural areas.
(3) Costs are related to 5-roomed houses —2 living rooms+3 bedrooms—only, which represent the typical house type being provided by housing authorities—rural cottages are not included.
