Vol. 261 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Legislation.

22.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he proposes to introduce new or amending legislation governing the ESB.

Acceptance of some of the recommendations of the ESB Investigation Committee (Fletcher Committee) would require amending legislation. As I stated in reply to questions on 30th May, 1972, that committee made a number of recommendations related to the financing and operations of the ESB which are being examined as a matter of urgency. Any decisions to amend the existing legislation must await the outcome of this examination.

Mr. O'Donnell

There is one copy of the Fletcher Report in the Library. Could the Minister make it possible to have this report made available to Deputies? It is a very elaborate report dealing with technical matters and many Deputies would like to have a copy of it. Would that be possible?

I will inquire whether it is the kind of report that can be submitted to Deputies.

Which committee of inquiry into the ESB is the Minister referring to? There have been so many committees.

I mentioned the Fletcher Committee.

I did not hear the Minister say that.
