Vol. 261 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nuclear Energy Act.

27.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the progress made in implementing the provisions of the Nuclear Energy (An Bord Fuinnimh Núicléigh) Act, 1971.

Pending evaluation of the recent natural gas find off Kinsale, the Electricity Supply Board deferred a decision on the possible timing of a nuclear generating station. In the circumstances, I have not yet constituted the Nuclear Energy Board provided for under the Nuclear Energy Act, 1971. Implementation of the other provisions of the Act must generally await the appointment of the board. I have the question of constituting the board at present under consideration.
