Vol. 261 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Trading Position.

4.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has received a copy of the report by Professor Uri to the European Commission on the Community's trading position in the world; and if he intends to present his views thereon at any stage.

A copy of the report in question has been received and is being examined here. Any views which we might wish to present on the report in Brussels must await completion of this examination.

Is the Minister aware that this report contains a suggestion which might involve the dismantlement of the Community's common agricultural policy and that this would have very severe effects on Ireland? Has he considered presenting his views strongly on this matter at the earliest possible date?

This is being done.

Is being, has been or will be?

Is being. The whole purpose of the exercise, to which I take it the Fine Gael Party have subscribed, even though it was not very evident on polling day, is that we are becoming members of the European Economic Community and that within that framework we, as a sovereign, independent State, will play our part in the interests of all sections of our community.

The Minister should answer the question he was asked.

I am calling Question No. 5.
