Vol. 262 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Purchases.

52.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries why the amount provided under subhead E7 (1) of his Department's Estimate for the purchase of native wheat is substantially less than the amount spent last year; and if he will indicate the actual figures.

The provision in the Estimates for 1972-73 for recoupment of losses arising from the purchase and resale of native wheat is £225,350, which is £73,650 less than the amount spent in 1971-72. The major portion of the difference of £73,650 represents a payment to An Bord Gráin of the balance of the loss involved in disposing, as feed, of surplus millable wheat of the 1968 crop.
