Vol. 262 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Jury Service.

62.

asked the Minister for Justice whether the same jurors are being called for service in Dublin after a lapse of only two and a half years; and if so, whether he will take steps to amend the jury service system so as to alleviate the burden on the number of people liable for jury service.

The present time lag between calls for jury service in Dublin is about two and a half years, compared with about four years in 1962. This greater frequency of calls is, however, offset by a reduction to about ten to 12 days in the time a member of a jury panel is required to attend in Court during term as compared with eight to ten weeks in 1962.

With regard to the second part of the question, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question on Thursday, 22nd June, 1972.
