Vol. 262 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consumer Councils.

37.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the Government have any plans to implement the suggestion contained in the recently published report of the National Prices Commission to the effect that consumer councils should be set up for certain semi-State and industrial bodies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the National Prices Commission's Occasional Paper No. 1 entitled Consumer Councils in Public Enterprise, which was published on 30th June, 1972. I would refer the Deputy to the foreword to this paper in which it was indicated that the paper was being published as a “discussion paper” and in which the commission invited all interested parties to submit their comments on the paper not later than 1st September next.

I understand that the proposals contained in the paper are currently being considered by the Departments directly involved.
