Vol. 262 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Children's Court.

49.

asked the Minister for Justice when a new court premises and ancillary offices will be provided for the Dublin Children's Court.

I am not in a position to say. At the moment a small committee under the chairmanship of the President of the High Court is examining both the short-term and the long-term requirements of the Dublin courts with a view to making recommendations to me as to how these requirements should be met. I have asked the committee to consider the accommodation needs of the Children's Court as one of its priorities.

Could I ask the Minister if he will ensure that the committee give the most urgent consideration to the provision of better premises for the Dublin Children's Court? The court and the facilities available in it are a public disgrace to any country calling itself a republic. The court should be housed immediately in much better premises.

I have already indicated, Sir, that the committee has been asked to consider the accommodation needs of the Children's Court as one of its priorities.
