Vol. 262 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Review Board.

58.

asked the Minister for Defence whether any review board of Army pay and conditions exists; and, if not, whether the establishment of such a board is contemplated.

A working party consisting of a representative of the Department of Finance and two representatives of the Department of Defence, one civil and one military, were set up in 1969 and are still functioning.

Is it the position that pay rates in the Army in respect of all grades have fallen behind the pay rates for other sectors of the public service? If so, can we expect any comprehensive review of payment of Army personnel to be available in the near future so as to ensure that the rates are brought into line with those obtaining in other sections of the public service?

The question of Army pay is under consideration at present and a decision will be issued very shortly.

It is money they want and there is no reason why they have not been given it.

I can assure the Deputy that their wishes will be fulfilled.
