Vol. 262 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ministerial University Communications.

46.

asked the Minister for Education if he issued directions, instructions or advice to the university authorities at any time during the past ten years; if so, if he will indicate the nature of such communications and the dates on which they were issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Any communications which have taken place between the university authorities and my Department have been concerned with administrative matters, related to the provision of state funds for the universities and other general matters.

The task involved in going through various files covering a period of ten years to ascertain the dates in which letters were issued to the universities would serve no useful purpose and would entail an expenditure of official time which would be unwarranted.

Will the Minister state if he has issued any directive or communication to the university authorities, or to any particular university, in relation to the holding of fees at a particular level over the past ten years?

That is a separate question.

It is, of course, a separate question. The question the Deputy asked was very general.

The Minister is being most devious.
