168.

asked the Minister for Local Government the county councils which have submitted pay increase proposals to his Department in accordance with a Labour Court recommendation for assistant engineer clerks; and if he will indicate the date of request for sanction and details of money proposals, if any, and his decision.

Between 28th April, 1972 and 6th July, 1972 nine county councils submitted proposals for sanction to implement the Labour Court recommendation for engineers' office assistants referred to by the Deputy. This provided, inter alia, for a 10 per cent increase in remuneration for this grade as from 1st April, 1970. The councils concerned were Tipperary (SR), Cavan, Kildare, Cork, Waterford, Clare, Monaghan, Roscommon, Galway, My Department issued a circular letter on 6th July, 1972, to all county councils sanctioning implementation of the recommendation.

The salary generally applying to this grade immediately before 1st April, 1970, ranged from a minimum of £14.50 by increments of 80 pence to a maximum of £18.50. On the basis of the general sanction issued, the current salary is £22.15 by increments of 88 pence to a maximum of £26.55. The current salary includes also other increases awarded in the period from 1st April, 1970 to the present date.
