asked the Taoiseach if he will indicate the number of industrial and commercial enterprises with more than 500 employees.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Enterprises.
Information in the form requested by the Deputy is not available as inquiries conducted by the Central Statistics Office are carried out on the basis of establishments or local units rather than on the basis of enterprises. In the industrial sector the results of the 1969 Census of Industrial Production showed 62 establishments with more than 500 persons employed in the transportable goods industries. In the retail and wholesale sectors the most recent information relates to the year 1966 when the last full Census of Distribution was taken. The results of that inquiry indicated fewer than five establishments with 500 or more persons employed; there were 27 establishments in these sectors with 200 or more persons. Similar information for other sectors is not available.

asked the Taoiseach if he will provide a breakdown for each of the past ten years of industrial enterprises and the number of employees.
With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the number of establishments and the number of employees in each of the major groups of industries as recorded at the Census of Production for each of the years 1960 to 1969, the latest year for which these details are available at present.
Following is the statement:
