Vol. 263 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda Harbour Works.

78.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the present position with regard to capital sums available to Drogheda Harbour Commissioners for dredging and agreed harbour works at the port; and whether the sums are sufficient for the schedule produced by them so that they can proceed with the development of the port without hindrance through lack of capital.

I am aware of the Drogheda Harbour Commissioners' proposal for development in the Mornington area of their harbour. The matter of financing these proposals is, in the first instance, a matter for the harbour commissioners who have, however, sought a State grant to assist them in the project. My Department is awaiting receipt of further information from the commissioners before proceeding with the examination of the application. Until this information is received and examined I am not in a position to give a more detailed reply.

Is it not a fact that this information has been provided to the Department several weeks ago?

That is not my information but I will certainly look into it. If that is the case, I will be very annoyed, personally.

So will they be when they hear the Minister's reply.

I thank the Deputy. I like helpful remarks of this kind. They enable one to get in touch.
