Vol. 263 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Voluntary Hospital Consultants.

21.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received any representations regarding the criteria applied, with particular reference to the requirement of a knowledge of the Irish language, to the appointment of consultants to voluntary hospitals; and if he considers an amendment to the stipulation requiring a knowledge of the Irish language would be in order.

I have not received any representations regarding criteria as to knowledge of the Irish language in relation to appointments of consultants in voluntary hospitals. So far as I am aware, it is not the practice for voluntary hospital authorities to stipulate a requirement as regards knowledge of the Irish language for consultant appointments in their hospitals.

The latter part of the question does not therefore arise.
