Vol. 263 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farm Accidents.

11.

asked the Taoiseach if he will furnish up-to-date particulars of fatal and non-fatal accidents on farms from 1969 to date in the form in which the statistics are usually compiled.

There is no system in operation for recording farm accidents and, therefore, the information requested by the Deputy is not available. The only data available relate to deaths from fatal accidents as recorded in the vital statistics reports. The number of deaths from fatal accidents which occurred on farms in so far as the information is available, is as follows: 1969, 24; 1970, 24; 1971, 18.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary segregate the causes of the different accidents? Has he got the number caused by tractors and the number caused through the use of poisonous substances?

I have not got that information, but I shall make every effort to make it available to the Deputy.
