Vol. 263 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon School.

45.

asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, his Department has for the national school at Rahara, Athleague, County Roscommon.

46.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the staffing and number of pupils on the roll at Rahara national school, Athleague, County Roscommon.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 45 and 46 together.

An assessment of the Rahara area has made it clear that the future enrolments will be sufficient to maintain a one-teacher school only. In accordance with the policy to regroup small schools into larger and more efficient teaching units, the question of the amalgamation of the Rahara school with another school is under investigation. It is intended to hold a meeting of the Rahara parents as soon as possible to discuss the proposals.
