Vol. 263 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Scenic View Obstructions.

185.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will request local authorities to take steps to have all obstructions to scenic views lowered to a level of four feet so as to afford motoring tourists a clear view.

The planning authorities are best qualified to decide to what extent they should exercise their statutory powers in this regard. They are well aware of the scenic views in their area and of what they can and should do to enhance them. One of the objectives which the statutory development plan of a planning authority may indicate relates to the preservation and improvement of views and prospects and where provisions in this respect have not been included in current development plans the planning authorities are aware that it is open to them to include such provisions in the review of development plans which is now in progress.
