Vol. 263 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Butter Sales.

36.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will state the present position regarding the sale of butter in Britain; whether there has been a decline in such sales; whether the decline can be attributed to any single cause; and if any remedial action is under consideration.

I am informed by An Bord Bainne that sales of Irish butter in Britain have increased appreciably this year and that, for the period from 1st January to 31st October last, they amounted to some 4,000 tons more than in the corresponding period of 1971.

That is interesting. I was over there recently and from what I heard they were refusing to buy Irish butter but that does not correspond with what the Minister has told us.

The facts are different.
