Vol. 263 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Personnel on Border Duty.

59.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider the granting of a special allowance to Army personnel on Border duty.

I am having the matter examined.

May I ask the Minister to give the matter his urgent attention because the lack of this special allowance is causing considerable dissatisfaction among Army personnel particularly as they are engaged on duties very similar to those performed by gardaí and the gardaí are in receipt of considerably larger emoluments and pay for doing the same work? This is a serious matter as far as Army morale is concerned.

I can assure the Deputy that there will be no undue delay.
