Vol. 263 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Differential Rents.

63.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange for the holding of an inquiry into the differential rent system for local authority dwellings.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 61 on 8th March last.

64.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will increase children's allowances in graded rent schemes to a figure equal to that allowed under the Social Welfare Acts.

Any increase in the existing allowances under a differential or graded rent scheme is a matter, in the first instance, for each local authority who must take into account the effect of any such proposal on their finances. The local authorities would have to raise the money through increased rates or adjustments of the rents of other tenants to pay for any concessions they grant.
