Vol. 264 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Pier.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance the method of recruitment of personnel employed on the building of the new pier at Burtonport, County Donegal; and if he is satisfied that any conditions and regulations laid down are being observed.

Normal procedures were followed in every respect in relation to the employment of personnel for work at the new pier in Burtonport.

The total work force is 11. Two key men who had been in the employment of the Office of Public Works for many years were transferred from other jobs where their services were no longer required. The other nine positions were offered through the local employment exchange and eight of them were filled through the exchange.

The remaining job called for special skill and nobody possessing this skill was registered at the exchange at the time. This job was sought by and given to a local man, temporarily working abroad, who was found to possess the necessary qualifications.
