Vol. 264 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transportable Goods Expansion.

60.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the percentage rate of expansion in manufactured transportable goods for the period of each programme for economic expansion; and the projected percentage rate of expansion for such goods in each case.

I assume that the Deputy's question relates to the 11 industrial groupings classed as transportable goods in the Second Programme for Economic Expansion.

The actual rate of annual expansion over the period of the First Programme was 7.6 per cent; the First Programme did not contain a growth projection for transportable goods.

The four-year period 1964-67 was the actual period of the Second Programme which was originally intended to run to 1970. The actual rate of annual expansion over the period 1964 to 1967 was 6.3 per cent; the revised projected rate for the period of the Second Programme was 5.3 per cent.

The period of the Third Programme has not yet expired. Consequently the actual growth rate is not available. The estimated rate of annual expansion to the end of 1971 was 5 per cent; the projected rate for the period of the Third Programme was 7 per cent.
