Vol. 265 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Hospital.

31.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the deplorable condition of the Fever Hospital, New Ross, County Wexford; if he is aware that just over 12 months ago a report had been submitted on the condition of this hospital; and if he will give details of this report and indicate the action to date taken on the matter.

I am aware that a visiting committee reported on the condition of New Ross Fever Hospital at a meeting of the South-Eastern Health Board in August, 1971. I presume this is the report to which the Deputy's question relates.

The main criticisms in the report related to the roof which was leaking, the windows which were in bad condition and a defective refrigerator. I understand the health board in the interventing period have had repairs carried out to the roof, replacement of the windows is in progress, that incidental renovations and decoration necessitated by the defective roof is under way, that a large refrigerator has been obtained and also that kitchen equipment has been purchased.

Recently the committee again visited the hospital and expressed concern about the condition of the roof and windows. I understand that the board considered their report at its meeting held earlier this month and that the chief executive officers will report to the next meeting of the board where the matter will again be considered.
