asked the Taoiseach the estimated number of men and women in the State over the age of 60 and 65 respectively.

The latest available figures relate to the year 1971. It is estimated that the number of males aged 60 years or over at that time was 219,000 while the number aged 65 years or over was 151,000. The number of females aged 60 years or over was 245,000 while the number aged 65 years or over was 179,000
