Vol. 265 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Northern Ireland Affairs.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if responsibility for Northern Ireland affairs comes within the ambit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Northern Ireland affairs are primarily the responsibility of the Taoiseach. In so far as those affairs affect relations with Britain they are also, of course, the concern of the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Could the Taoiseach tell the House whether the recent visit which took place between his Minister for Foreign Affairs, Deputy FitzGerald, and the British Prime Minister took place with his prior knowledge and consent?

With prior knowledge and with the approval of the Government.
