Vol. 265 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Elections.

63.

asked the Minister for Local Government if local elections will be held this year.

As I announced last month, the Government have decided to introduce legislation to postpone the local elections for one year.

Can the Minister say when he made that announcement?

About three weeks ago.

More than that. It was about five weeks ago.

If the Deputy knows, why does he ask?

Is the Minister aware that this question was put down before he made that announcement?

It is too bad that the Deputy did not get an opportunity——

I hope the Government enjoyed their holidays and that they will get down and do some work now.

Am I to take it that Deputy Lemass did not read the newspaper report? I am sorry if he did not.

We were told a little while ago that we cannot believe newspaper reports.

I am just trying to draw the attention of the public to the fact that the Government have had a nice long holiday. They cannot get into trouble if this House does not meet.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
