The approximate net receipt of income tax for the year 1972-73 was £169.2 million.
The statistics available do not show the cost of collection of income tax alone, since income tax, sur-tax and corporation profits tax are administered as part of the one scheme of taxation. The estimated cost of these duties for 1971-72, which is the latest year for which figures are available, was about £4.2 million which represented 2.4 per cent of the net receipt of those taxes for that year.
