Vol. 265 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Technological Specialisation.

3.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has any plans for promoting greater technological specialisation within industry.

The Institute for Industrial Research and Standards prepared a five year plan covering the period from 1st April, 1971, aimed at providing the necessary technological support and investment opportunities, based on technology, for suitable firms. This plan was endorsed by the National Science Council.

Incentives are also provided under the research and development grants scheme administered by the Industrial Development Authority. The object of the scheme is to improve the technological content of Irish industry. Additional resources are being made available for the expansion of the scheme and this will also help towards the development of Irish scientific and technological manpower resources.

The Minister said additional resources were being provided. Could the Minister give us any idea what these additional resources are?

I am not in a position at the moment to indicate what they are to the Deputy but, if he would like to put down a question, I will be happy to provide that information for him.
