Vol. 265 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Roads.

80.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the dangerous and unsuitable condition of the surface of the roadways leading to and surrounding the houses at the Powder Mills, Ballincollig, County Cork; and how soon he intends to have them surfaced and rendered suitable for the residents of these houses.

I am aware that the surface of the roadways in question has not been in a satisfactory condition for some time. Minor repairs were carried out in March last and it is proposed to effect further improvements in the near future. These roads will be included in the area of land at Ballincollig for the purchase of which the Cork County Council are at present negotiating with my Department.

Am I to take it that it is intended to carry out these repairs before the roads are taken over by the county council?

The Deputy may not take that from the reply. I am aware these roads are unsatisfactory and I am considering what action to take to have them improved.

It will take some time before the county council assume responsibility for these roads. They are in a dangerous condition and I would ask the Minister to have temporary repairs carried out to make them safe.

I will look into the matter. The Deputy may take it that I have the utmost sympathy with him.
