Under EEC fishery regulations the initiative in forming producer organisations rests with the producers themselves and my Department have been impressing on producers the advisability of their forming such organisations. I have been given to understand that at a recent meeting of fishermen held under the auspices of the Federation of Irish Fishing Co-operatives, it was decided to set up four producer organisations to cover the entire coastline.
