Vol. 265 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Subsidy Withdrawal.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that a Dublin firm (name supplied) may be forced to close down following the withdrawal of the milk subsidy; and if any assistance will be given to this firm.

I am not so aware. The termination of this subsidy, which was effected in accordance with EEC requirements, equally applied to all other firms in the business and, so, the relative competitive position of any one firm has not been changed.

Does the Minister mean that no help will be given to this firm? This firm may have to close down.

There will be no help for this firm. The firm are in the same position as all similar firms and there is nothing that can be done because of the EEC restrictions.

This happens to be a native firm which cannot compete against the foreign combines. Surely some help could be given from somewhere?

I cannot see why this firm should be in such trouble. Every other firm should be in the same position. They will all be paying the same price for milk.

Will they close down?
