Vol. 265 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flights to USA.

6.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he proposes to authorise low-cost flights to the USA.

I assume that the Deputy's question relates to nonscheduled transatlantic flights.

The position is that the arrangements which have existed for some years for affinity group charter flights are still in operation and such flights are authorised by my Department subject to compliance with the conditions which have been published for such flights.

The question of the introduction of the new charter concept based on advance booking i.e., the ABC charter concept, is under consideration in conjunction with other matters affecting the operation of charters and scheduled services. If and when it is decided to introduce the new charters, conditions governing their operation will be published.
