Vol. 265 No. 12

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin-Kinnegad Road.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has any plans to build a motorway from Dublin to Kinnegad, County West-meath, to relieve traffic congestion on the roads to the West.

Investigations are proceeding with a view to establishing a line for a new road from Dublin to Kilcock. Some preliminary route investigation has also been carried out on the section Kilcock-Enfield-Kinnegad. A decision whether to proceed with such a project to motorway standard, or otherwise, must await the result of more detailed studies of the cost and of the benefits which it would afford.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, the Minister gave an answer the last day, but I was not here for it, but I am sure he realises that I said that that is a scandalously bad road from here to Kilcock.

I am well aware of the fact that most of the roads leading from the capital city are in a scandalous condition. I shall be glad to do what I can to remedy the neglect which has occurred over the years.

Would it be too much to ask the Minister to hazard a guess as to when this road will become a reality?

It would be too much.
