Vol. 265 No. 12

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Crime Prevention.

11.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will encourage owners of large industrial and commercial premises to provide adequate means to combat attempts at arson and general vandalism while those premises are unoccupied.

14.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will take extra measures to combat thefts from stores.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 14 together.

Internal protection of goods and premises is a matter for the owners but the Garda Crime Prevention Unit at Dublin Castle and in areas outside Dublin the local crime prevention officers are available to advise on measures to increase security.

I do not see the connection between Questions Nos. 11 and 14. I was concerned mostly about thefts from supermarkets and stores of that nature. Did the reply cover that as well?

The reply covered that. As I said, the protection of goods and premises internally is a matter for the owners, but the owners will have every assistance they require from the crime prevention unit at Dublin Castle to advise them on what steps should be taken.
