Vol. 265 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amenity Grants Scheme.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government the estimated cost of the granting in full of all the applications for amenity grants in each year since 1970.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Amenity Grants—Cost of granting applications received

1970-71

£22,000¹

1971-72

Not available²

1972-73

£1,400,000³

1973-74

£1,700,000³

NOTES:

1. Relates to old amenity grants scheme.

2. Local authorities were informed on 26 April, 1971, that it was not proposed to entertain further applications under the old scheme which was being wound up. £117,000 was allocated during the year to meet outstanding commitments but new applications were returned.

3. Estimates based on 50% of estimated cost of projects where supplied and where amount of grant sought was not specified. No particulars available for a number of projects proposed.

I am surprised the Minister should avail of a tabular statement. Surely——

It is not usual to have supplementary questions on the issue of a tabular statement for the record.

Maybe the Minister would facilitate me? I often did in similar circumstances.

How could one logically ask a supplementary question on a tabular statement?

There should be only three or four figures involved unless the Minister is giving the information for each county. No answer, no cooperation.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of the amounts allocated to each local authority under the amenity grants scheme during 1972-73; and the proposed allocations for 1973-74.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report. I shall read it out if the Deputy wishes.

It is not usual. A tabular statement goes on the records of the House.
